OK, so shop may be a little optimistic. Let's call it a shed. Yea, Yea, a shed. It's got the basics. 1) It is fully enclosed. Therefore it can keep out any inclement weather; like rain, snow, hail, high winds or any combination thereof. 2) It has a sturdy floor. Interlocking stone on a compacted base. While it isn't concrete, the price was right. FREE! 3) Insulation. Very important here in Canada. It gets F%$#@ing cold. 4) Heater. See point # 3. 5) Electricity. For welders, grinders, milling machine, lathe. Tunes. Very important that . . . Tunes! 6) Compressor. For air tools. So I can pretend I know what I am doing. Actually, if people see crazy awesome tools laying about, they just assume you actually use them . . 7) Sliding door. Big enough to get the Suzuki in and out. Very important! And once again the price was right . . . FREE! 8) A steel roof. To keep out the shitty weather. See points # 1 and 3. So the building was delivered as a portable horse shelter. 3 walls and a roof. My friend helped me build the front wall with the door in it. It might be more accurate to say I helped my friend. A "constructionist" I am not. Found someone who wanted to get rid of some interlocking stone, just had to pick it up. Done. Another friend was replacing his sliding door, I can take the old one, thank you very much. Insulation, wiring, walls and ceiling have OSB on them. It is 12' X 16' so it should give me enough room to work on one bike plus a bench top mill and a bench top lathe in the future. If I don't cram it too full. Attachments:

Yep. I get by with a little help from my friends. And if you dig around a little, you can always find stuff that someone else is trying to get rid of that is still in good shape. Just takes some time is all.

The mill and lathe are the corner stones for my business plan.
I've decided this is my time. I've spent the last 20 years or so learning my trade and I'm d@#m good at it. Also learning the airbrush for the same amount of time. Now, I can put both disciplines together and do my own thing; building bikes. It's going to be good.

Ah excellent! I for one am extremely jealous you're getting to do that for a living! I love working on bikes, loved building my 450 with the little custom touches I did and I'm going to love doing the Kat as well. Unfortunately I'm not skilled/experienced enough nor quick enough to make a living out of it even though that would be awesome.
Very glad to hear you can chase your dream!

Thank you. I'm going to give it %110 for sure. And if it doesn't go, I know I did my best. And I can always get a job at a machine shop so, as the saying goes, "Nothing ventured, nothing gained!"

My dad always said to me "as long as you do your best, nothing else can be asked of you and succeed or fail, you can hold your head high" He is right but then, he was drunk most of the time too lol

I still reckon he's right though Rusty, if you have a dream you gotta give it a shot! Oh i know he was right... I had a dream years ago...joining the royal navy as an aircraft engineer...got through all the selections and tests, done a 2 day fitness and taster weekend, got my travel warrant and entry date...until i was hit by a car on my way home from work one day...spent 4 months in hospital and nearly a year learning to walk properly again...end of my dream :-( Still hurts thinking back

My dad always told me to do the safe thing. Get a trade, a paycheck and everything will be fine. That used to work, not any more. Job security is a modern myth. It is a form of slavery. The story they want us to buy into is that we need more stuff, better stuff, newer stuff and we need it now. Pretty soon we need the paycheck because we need the "stuff."
I have a different story. Simplify. Less stuff, more quality. More time. I may be naive but I want to live on my terms, not what people say I need to do. I know I'm going to get rich on this deal, I just want to do what I want to do. Throw some paint, build cool bikes, make some parts, try some things.
Time will tell how it all works out.
Thus endeth the rant.

Yes sir. That's the idea. In my previous post I meant to say "I'm not going to get rich on this deal."
There is something else that colours my thinking now. About 10 years ago, my dad retired, sold his business to my brother. It was good, he was doing well, thought he might need to hire someone. About 8 years ago, actually January 10, 2008, there was an accident and he died that day. You can't get the time back, no do overs. I want my time to count. The hearse doesn't have a trailer hitch for the U-haul trailer. I can't bring the stuff with me when I die. I just hope the time I have, I can do something that is meaningful and I can teach my kids right.
Wow, sorry about that. That was heavier than I wanted. LOL
