I just replaced my first indicator. I'm as mechanically useful as a choccy teapot so I am quite pleased with myself. I know it's threading some wires and connecting them to a resistor but never done it before and managed to not ruin anything

You know your stuff Pad. I would love to tinker more but as the bike is my only transport I can't take any risks in the name of learning

You should feel chuffed with yourself, we have all started somewhere and we've made mistakes. Well done that man.

Funny you say that chief. I managed to lose the connector that keeps the connection so a quick squeeze of the pliers and all is well. Ha ha.

Well done Winger.
I see more and more riders knowing less and less about their bikes.
Good on you for having a go. We all started knowing nothing, some of us haven't progressed much further!! LOL.
Feel free to ask for help and advice, even what you think might be silly stuff, its good to see someone having a go.

Mistakes will always happen regardless of experience or how good you think you are, because life can interfere right at the wrong moment sometimes. A couple of years ago, I did a 10 lap wet race on my efe with the front wheel in the wrong way round, now by rights that shouldn't be possible, but it seems that a bandit wheel will go in the wrong way round as the clearances are the same or very very near the same both side of the spindle. Calipers lined up too. That wasn't the real problem, it was the fact that the tyre was the wrong way round, so the rain was being dragged into the tread rather than the other way around. ha ha. The weather that day was a shocker, wheels/tyres were changing all day long, so time being against us caused the mistake, probably only by luck I finished in 6th place. We had a good laugh about it afterwards.

I've done the sump plug one, twice, and over tightened a drive oil cap on the back wheel of my CX500, so that the top separated from the threads, which cost me a new drive unit

I see riders regularly who don't even know the basic maintenance that everyone should know IMO, I usually offer advice or offer to show people how to do the simple stuff & am always surprised at how many simply cant be arsed, I did help run a basic course for 14 to 16 year olds years ago & found that rewarding, hopefully they did too
Winger, good on you for having a go mate keep trying stuff & if you ever get stuck you got my number, use it anytime
Just you watch now Slim. You'll get a phone call from me "I've removed the sump bolt and the bike is now on fire!"
