We use Makita drills and drivers at work and although they work well I don't like the feel of them..they feel really cheap imo I don't mind the florescent colour of the ryobi...we've got loads of wet wipes here so I tend to steal some from time to time;-)

I know what you mean about the cheap feel of Makita mate I feel the same, the latest models are better but I still find Ryobi much better in terms of feel & that is important for constant use IMO
B&Q have loads of Ryobi on display maybe its worth the trip just to see how they feel to you, pity you are so far away or you could have borrowed mine for a few days to see how you got on Yeah that would've been great...will have to persuade the missus that a trip to b&q is needed this weekend;-)

Am after an impact wrench and I've seen a ryobi 18v cordless one for around £100 new..anyone ever had ryobi stuff before?? I have a few Ryobi 18V tools. Garage fan, radio, angle grinder, torch, work light, 1/2 drive hammer wrench, 2 drills, 3 chargers, 4 batteries, strimmer, leaf blower, circular saw. They are fine for home use, DIY and domestic jobs. I don't use mine at work very often but I have seen a few other tradies using them. Only thing I have managed to kill apart from a couple of batteries was a radio. I left it on with the volume down in the sun, in a heat wave. Was a couple of years old, store gave me a new one, no receipt, no questions. Dont bother with the old Ni-Cad batteries, use the newer Lithium ones. The 1.4Ah one are OK but the bigger 4.0Ah really are a lot more useful.

I think they are a good compromise. Many folk don't need top end expensive trade tools designed to be used 10 hours a day, but they beat the hell out of buying cheap Chinese crap that's often gutless and disposable.

I put up a fence to keep my hens in (and dog out) Timber cut with a circular saw, holes drilled, screws driven in, radio on. All using cheap Ryobi 18V tools. Just edged my lawn with the 18V whipper-snipper (strimmer) and did a tidy up with the 18V leaf blower.

Yes. I was referring to the cheap nasty shit that still comes out of China. There's plenty of stuff being built there that's of an acceptable standard.
