If you had £2500? Curious, because I'm after something else in the new year but don't want to spend a fortune. I need something big, capable of going up and down the country. Open to ideas. What would you guys look for?

Blackbirds or ZX12R are normally better value than Busa's.
The Suzuki is the weapon of choice for performance junkies and petrol heads. Land speed racers, drag racers, dyno shoot outs, heaps of car guys building kit cars and mini-race cars etc etc.
In reality the ZX and Bird are enough bike for most folk.

I'd probably go for a big adventure type bike, a V-strom or Varadero. Comfort does it for me these days

Big solid bike, HEAPS of grunt, smooth inline 4 motor, classic retro looks, comfy and good for pillions and luggage ?
GSX1400.
Downside is they need a bit of love. Finish is standard Suzuki's "Average at best" cases / forks etc corrode if ignored.
They have a bit of a following so not sure what UK prices are like?
If not maybe an XJR or ZRX ?

£2500...could get a big vtwin like a tl1000 or an rsv mille A zrx1200 or a cb1300...the xjr1300 is a great bike too if you prefer air cooled however not great on the motorway
Blackbirds are great but the vfr800 is just as capable if not as exciting...great noise tho
Do you want upright or a sportier riding position Gsxr1000's can be bought for that money

A guy at work has a TDM900, he absolutely loves it, rides it all year round, NEVER washes it - just looks after the chain and sprockets/brakes/lights...it never fails to start and runs faultlessly. My brother in law has just sold a Beemer RR1200RT for £2500 - that will run forever if you like that sort of thing. I agree with the above, ZRX or XJR would be a great choice, I doubt you would get a GSX14 for that money though. What about a B12 ? Get a faired one if you want to do motorway miles - superb engines, and it's a Suzuki

Thanks fellas, interesting options there. Weirdly enough I've been looking into vfr800, Blackbird, even Triumph ST and Trophy's for that battleship appeal. so the choice is about right for a general consensus then. Not keen of Busa's other than for the reasons Tony suggests, if you plan to do any of the options he mentions they make a sensible buy. Just don't like the look of them myself, designed for speed but just plain fugly! Gsx1400 a good choice, but think they may be a bit of a chore for motorways. ZXR12 good bike but think they're holding their prices a bit better than others. I think something with a fairing would be the smarter option long term, and I do like the Blackbird, the VFR is a gentleman's choice. Good choices guys.

Forgot about triumphs..Many moons ago I had a 955 speedtriple, that was a great bike, not much fun on motorways though. The RS would be a good choice - same engine.

I have no issues with the GSX1400 (or any other naked bike) on motorways. Each to their own but unless your doing REAL silly speeds I don't find a need to hide behind Tupperware. Quite the opposite, I find the riding position on my upright naked bikes let me spend more hours in the sadle than faired Busa does.
I went from two faired Busa's to upright naked bikes to do higher mileage.

You're forgetting one fundamental thing there Tony, it RAINS a lot over here bud, a fairing is as god send believe me.

If you went for a ZRX, avoid the Eddie Lawson ones. They command a higher price for that paint alone!

BMW F800st. Cheap but reliable. Heated grips. Part faired. ABS. Unless you're insisting on a suzuki?
