sat in a layby many years back near torness nuclear power stn near Edinburgh I heard a distinctive supercharged whine coming towards me I nearly choked on my sandwich when it flew over my van it was a ww2 German fighter a me109 the fella must have seen me as he came back over the van again what a sight that will stick with me forever that and the noise of a spitfire later that yr I went to the local air show and got talking to a fella and told him what I saw he told me the plane I saw blew up in mid air during a Spanish air show not long after that  |

There's not many 109's still flying but they do sound good.
Engine sounds that stick with me ?
Standing directly underneath Concorde's engine doing an "air start" (basically a truck with a big compressor blowing air throught the engine to " bump start" it). It's so loud that it's actually more of a feeling, you can't even open your mouth because it vibrates your lungs.
The old Rotax tandem twin 250's and TZ Yamahas.
The early, square four, Cagiva 500's. The exhaust port was so "square" that the exhaust had a crack to it like no other.
Any pre "big bang" 500 spinning the back out of a corner.
The dry clutch rattle on my old RSC996 Honda.

Agree with the sound of the spitfire and the me109, Shoreham airshow a few years ago had them and a mustang doing a mock dogfight...was awsome
Same airshow had a low level flyby from a Lancaster bomber...that's a soundtrack that will leave you breathless
