My 644 dualsport wasn't too bad. It took 15 minutes to swap the wheels over, and they each had their own speedo drive, so no problems there. I know what you mean about the gearing and suspension though, mine was geared more towards road use, as that's where it spent 95% of its time, the suspension was the cause of the crash I had on it, which was then the reason I got rid of it....
The rear shocker snapped off the bottom mount - a common problem on the 644's, not sure it affected the 604's, but check it carefully !!
My crash cost me a fair few quid, and a lot of pain
